An end-grain board in European white oak, 4 cm thick. End grain means the knife edge parts the wood fibres rather than cutting across them, which is easier on the blade and closes back over the cut mark.
It is heavy — 3.2 kg — and it is meant to stay on the counter rather than be lifted in and out of a cupboard. Rubber feet are not fitted; the weight is what keeps it still.
